with a total of 9 sailfish releases and a couple Dorado for dinner.

Dolphin or Dorado as they are known in Guatemala continue to be the dominant catch

1/03/2011

But when you get these big guys on light tackle it is a great fight and they make great eating.

All the fishing in Guatemala isn't on the Pacific side.  Here's Capt. Gerry with a big grouper caught on one of his Rio Dulce trips.

January went out with a BANG for Capt. Dennis on the Tijereta.  His email said it all in few words.
Subject: BIG FISH CLOSE IN,
YES the big bad boys are 5 and 6 miles from the marina.

Finally we are ready to go!
After a rebuild of the Intercooler Dennis made another sea trial of the  "Tijereta" and everything checked out with a cruise speed of 18 knots at full speed at WOT 20 Knots.

Capt. Gerry Finally sent me a picture of a Sailfish Catch on 12/18/2010. This was one of five releases for 8 bites.  The one big Dorado that would have been destined for dinner made off with the bait with the dreaded"Sancocho"

Capt Dennis has La Tijereta at Marina Pez Vela and ready for Sea Trials 4/23/2010

Dennis Added Pictures of La Tijereta for good luck and hoisted the Bimini top and Outriggers.

Looking like a true fisherman and ready to go.

The Beginning, Sending the soon to be "Tirejeta del Mar" to Guatemala

The Next Step, "Tijereta" arrives in Guatemala

3/15/2010
Dennis, Carlos and myself made a Sunday afternoon trip to Puerto Barrios where of course the restaurants are closed on Sunday evening so we ate at "Pollo Campero" and holed up here for the night.

Check the reports for more details, but I had to go thru the walking entrance while I waited for Dennis to pull out the boat.

Finally we were free of the customs at 12 noon and only a hard ten hour trip awaited us.

Dennis thanks and says goodbye to our Customs Agent who got us thru the bureaucracy

Actually the trip went without much incident, and we saw a lot of scenery on the Atlantic Coast Highway...

but of course nothing goes perfect and we got a chance to observe more closely where Carlos worked on a leaking turbo hose.

We took a couple more minutes at the Coban turn off and hooked up with a piece of innertube and some hose clamps from the boat and made it the rest of the trip without incident.

The Tijereta spent the night in the Antigua Street when we hit town about 10 pm. this is in front of Dennis' Condominium complex.

The gateway into the parking lot where Dennis has his work shop must have been measured for us to get the boat inside.

Finally we got it settled into the temporary home only displacing one resident from their parking place during the project.

The first step was to strip unnecessary material from the old deck and cabin.

A second level deck had been built to make a flat deck without a motor box, but we wanted more freeboard and to be closer to the water to be able to release the sailfish that we know will be catching.

Capt. Dennis is going to be a great partner definitely not afraid to dig in sweat and get dirty.

The Kitchen area was removed since we will be a day boat and cold sandwiches, fresh fruit, beer, and maybe a just caught ceviche will be the order of the day

Even though we will have to remove the flying bridge again to get thru the gate we set it up to check out the electric connections and figure out the bimini top .

Capt. Gerry has experience in all aspects of working with boats so besides finding the fish he will make sure you and the boat make it back to port safe and sound.

Here is the Tijereta looking like a boat again, 3/19/2010, but there is still a long way to go.  I'm waiting for the next set of pictures from Guatemala.
